Italy - Ski and Ride in a coral reef: the Dolomites

Updated: Dec 9, 2020

The Dolomites have once been a coral reef - hard to immagine when you come there in winter and enjoy some time on the slopes :-). Having spent 5 months in Berne in the "normal life" we definitely needed a vacation ;-). We also missed the Dolomites and the snow (having not been there for 1,5 years). Therefore we decided to contact Guido and Deborah from the Hotel Al Forte (www.alforte.com) for a free room. We were lucky and started off for some great days in Arabba in the Dolomites.

Sella with fresh snow

It was nice to see Guido, Deborah and little Davide again and to get to know Maria. We enjoyed the comfort in the Hotel (for us the best in the region), great food and a wonderful sauna and our nice friends. The snow situation was perfect considering that it was just the beginning of the season. All slopes were open. The only problem was: the first days were fucking cold with up to -25°C (-13°F) degrees on the mountain top. Anyway, it was sunny and we were wearing 5 or more layers of warm fleece and gloves.

Monte Civetta - one of our favourite regions

One day we went to Alleghe to enjoy a perfect carving day in the Civetta region, our favourite one. The last days it started to snow heavily. That was heaven, half a meter of fresh powder. What a dream! But, despite being back in this wonderful region, our highlight was that Alberto, Barbara, Marco and Elena visited us for a dinner in the hotel. We got to know them in Ecuador at the Hostal Papagayo (in Machachi). It was so great to see them again and we had a wonderful evening together, drinking some Spritz and red wine and talking about the "good old times" in Ecuador. We hope to meet them again soon. Nos vemos, chicos locos! Many big kisses to Deborah, Davide and Maria and "happy birthday" to Guido! We already miss all of you and hope you had some nice christmas days (despite working). See you all soon!
